Dear fellow runner,
As a current or previous entrant to the Gosport Half Marathon, I’m writing to give you an update on this year’s event and extend the warmest welcome to the 40th staging of the Gosport Half Marathon.
As a small club we will all be out to support you (but not running alongside you) and with us will be eight local youth groups and a Samba Band: over two hundred people to ensure your safety, to encourage you to complete a tough distance and hopefully have a day to remember. The GHM is an event organised by runners for runners.
Our flat coastal route is ideal for those new to the 13.1mile challenge, or those looking to race and chase a PB and waiting at the end is what previous entrants have considered to be a great ‘Goodie Bag’ and medal.
The Half Marathon video can be viewed at the link here.
There has been no increase in the entry price this year £27.50 (affiliated runners) and £29.50 (unattached) and for those using the private land in Browndown Road to park there is no charge.
We also look after younger aspiring athletes by offering two junior events:
Under 12s(1k) and under 17s(2k) so it truly is a family day out. Their times will be digitally recorded, prizes for the first three boys and girls of each event and a medal and Goodie Bag for all participants. There is an additional prize of £500 to the school or club with the largest number of entrants for the purchase of sporting equipment of their choice. Entry price £3.00 per child.
There will be a mass warm up session led by Bootcamp UK at 8.45am for the children and we are also hoping that many of you will join us for an adult mass warm up prior to the main race, shortly before the 10am start.
The Fun Run / Challenge Run video can be viewed at the link here.
Each year the race is started by the Mayor of Gosport and we are honoured this year that the Mayor is Kirsten Bradley who is a long standing club member and it is particularly significant on the fortieth anniversary of Gosport Road Runners hosting the race.
We are proud to say that over the last 39 years we have given approximately £150,000 to charitable organisations.
This event is the highlight of our year, something to treasure and cherish – it is not organised for commercial profit and is a force for good.
Thank you for entering our event or being a participant in any of the previous 39 GHMs and we’d be delighted to welcome you back on Sunday 16th November. Full details and answers to many FAQs are available on the club website and The Race Entry link is here.
Hoping to see you on the start line,
Yours in running,
Dave Little
