Audio Devices

Under UKA rule 240 S5 the wearing of headphones, or similar devices, (other than those medically prescribed), is not permitted in races on any single-carriageway road that is not wholly closed to traffic. Some sections on the Gosport Half course do have traffic coming in the opposite direction to runners and are therefore not wholly closed.

    • The wearing of such equipment may prevent you from hearing instructions from marshals and other event staff as well as the hearing of sirens/horns from emergency services and other vehicles. By wearing such devices you are putting yourself and those around you at risk.

    • Rule 240 S5 also states if the athlete wears bone-conductive headphones, these are acceptable as these work by conducting sound through bones and do not sit or block the ears.

    • For the Gosport Half Marathon Bone conducting headphones are permitted so long as the wearer can hear traffic and marshal directions. Please do not risk our ability to get a future license for this event by ignoring this rule.

    • Runners seen to be wearing headphones other than bone-conducting headphones will be disqualified by the Event Organisers

Anti-Doping

An entrant shall be deemed to have made him/herself/their self, familiar with, and agreed to be bound by the UKA Anti-Doping Rules and to submit to the authority of UK Anti-Doping in the application and enforcement of the Anti-Doping Rules.

The UKA Anti-Doping Rules apply to entrants participating in the sport of Athletics, for 12 months from the [date of entry], whether or not the license holder is a citizen of, or resident in, the UK.

Please note that there are no car park facilities at the sports centre, ample car parking is available in Stokes Bay car parks (some chargeable) which are a short walk from the sports centre.

If you are collecting your number on race day then these can also be collected from Race HQ in Bay House School Sports Centre, collection will be available from 7.30 am to 9.30 am.

In order to avoid unnecessary stress on yourselves and race staff on the day of the race, it is recommended that you collect your race number on Sat 16th November.

Please complete the medical conditions and emergency contact information on the reverse of your number to enable emergency services to look after you in the unlikely event that you need it. Please do not run if you are unwell.

Photographs and video recordings may be taken and used for publicity purposes.

The race car park closes at 2 pm, please remove your car before this time.

Children’s Fun Run and Young Person’s Challenge Race

Before the start of the main race, we will be hosting two events for young people.

These are:

    • An under 12 children’s Fun Run which will start at 9am and is a distance of 1km.

    • An under 17 Challenge Race which will start at 9.15am and is a distance of 2km.

For all the children and young people there will be a mass warm up starting at 8.45am.

A parent or guardian must accompany every young person to and from these events.

Registration should be made online prior to the event to secure a place. Race entry on the day will only be available if there are places available.

Entry into either race is £2.00 payable by cash on the day. There is a goody bag and medal for every finisher and special trophies for the first three boys and girls in each event.

Every entrant will be given a race number and their finishing time digitally recorded. Results will be displayed on the website shortly after the event.

Parents and Guardians may accompany the younger children in the Fun Run only (unfortunately no medal for the adults!). Fancy dress in the Fun Run is optional for both children and accompanying adults and we hope to have face painting available on the day to complete the look.

The best represented school or club on the day will receive £500 from Gosport Road Runners to purchase sporting equipment of their choice.

Both events start and finish at Bay House School sports field, Gomer Lane, Gosport, PO12 2QP. On arrival you should collect your child’s number and safety pins in the Sports Hall. There will be marshals and direction signs on the day to guide you to the correct location.

There will be a refreshments stall in the assembly hall for the purchase of hot/cold drinks and snacks.

Please do allow enough time to park on the day as the area will be busy with runners from the main event. There is public parking at Stokes Bay where there are several large car parks, the nearest one to the Sports Hall is adjacent to the Bayside Cafe. You cannot park at the Sports Hall, on the school grounds or in Browndown Road. The main race car park in Browndown Road is on private land and only has capacity for the adult runners participating in the main event.

To enter these events please download and complete the form by clicking here. Please complete the form carefully. Once completed please email the form to funrun2024@gosporthalf.org by Friday, 15 November 2024.

We have limited numbers for these events so priority will be given to pre-submitted registration forms.

If your child cannot attend on the day, we would be grateful if you let us know via email to allow another young runner to participate.

If you require further information, please contact the Young Person’s Race Director

funrun2024@gosporthalf.org

After the races, should you wish to watch the Gosport Half Marathon Race then a good place would be along the Lee-on-the-Solent promenade between Elmore and Monks Hill Car Parks when approximately 1,200 runners would pass you on four occasions.
