Seaside views and samba sounds
The Gosport Half
With good weather conditions, it is an excellent PB Course and a great community event that normally attracts approximately 1,600 entrants. The start line is conveniently situated 140 meters from Race Headquarters. Runners setting out on this scenic two-lap course have a fabulous stretch along the Lee-on-the-Solent promenade that has far-reaching coastal views of the Isle of Wight. Runners will be hydrated at five water stations; encouraged by some of the most supportive marshals around and have their spirits lifted by the Samba Drum Band at the four- and 10.5-mile point.

To underline the Personal Best (PB) potential of this flat and fast course the top eight men went under 72 minutes last year with Will Grace (1:08:01.8) setting the pace. The top eight women finished inside eighty-seven minutes and the winner was Jen Granger (1:20:16.5) .
A Fun Run and a Young Person’s Challenge Race take place before the main event. There is a 1km Fun Run for children aged 11 and under, followed by the 2km Challenge Race for the under 17’s.
Important members notice
Grr Club Policy
The Gosport Road Runners, have a club policy preventing members from competing in their home race. However, they do provide a team of more than 100 marshals, and combined with the local community youth groups, more than 200 people are supporting the runners to cover the many tasks during the day. The club consider this gesture a way of saying ‘thank you’ to all the other clubs that have hosted races for them throughout the year. The Gosport Half Marathon is a venue for the Hampshire Road Race League but unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchair athletes.

Race Information
Welcome to the Gosport Half Marathon, brought to you by Gosport Road Runners and a venue for the Hampshire Road Race League.
It is a club policy that no Gosport Road Runner participates in the race. This maximises the numbers available to cover the many tasks on the day and together with eight youth groups there will be over 200 volunteers supporting you to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable run.
We consider it a way of thanking other clubs for hosting events for us throughout the rest of the year.
Surplus profits from this event enable Gosport Road Runners to donate approximately £13,000 each year to local good causes.
Your views are very important for making continuous improvement. Please use the link to our Racecheck and Facebook site to review the race which will be read by other runners and our club membership or just email your thoughts to: The Race Director.
The frequently asked questions in Race Information should give you the answers to most queries however if you do have further administrative enquiries they should be sent to info@gosporthalf.org.
We hope your final preparations go well and you enjoy the run at our seaside location.

Litter
Gosport Road Runners are proud of their track record of clearing up after the race.
Please do not give running and runners a bad name by discarding gel sachets, water bottles etc around the course as these will blow about in the wind. There are very many bins all around the route, please dispose of such items responsibly.
Headphones
Audio Devices
Under UKA rule 240 S5 the wearing of headphones, or similar devices, (other than those medically prescribed), is not permitted in races on any single-carriageway road that is not wholly closed to traffic. Some sections on the Gosport Half course do have traffic coming in the opposite direction to runners and are therefore not wholly closed.
- The wearing of such equipment may prevent you from hearing instructions from marshals and other event staff as well as the hearing of sirens/horns from emergency services and other vehicles. By wearing such devices, you are putting yourself and those around you at risk.
- Rule 240 S5 also states if the athlete wears bone-conductive headphones, these are acceptable as these work by conducting sound through bones and do not sit or block the ears.
- For the Gosport Half Marathon Bone conducting headphones are permitted so long as the wearer can hear traffic and marshal directions. Please do not risk our ability to get a future license for this event by ignoring this rule.
- Runners seen to be wearing headphones other than bone-conducting headphones will be disqualified by the Event Organisers
Children’s Fun Run and Young Person’s Challenge Race
Further details to follow.
Race Results
Race Results will be found on websites https://www.atwevents.co.uk and www.gosporthalf.org.
Retirements
We hope nobody has to cut their race short, but if you do have to retire, please do not pass over the finish mats. Please use the footpath on the left-hand side of the Finish, keeping well away from the mats, to avoid a false finish time being recorded. You MUST inform Race HQ that you have retired from the race and hand your timing chip back in. If you are not accounted for at the end of the race, we will ring you and your emergency contact.
Facilities
Changing Rooms, Toilets* (At the School and Seafront), Refreshments, Supervised bag storage, Retail stall, Sports Massage and Parking close to the venue.
