GOSPORT HALF MARATHON

SUNDAY 16th NOVEMBER 2025 @ 10am

RACE INFORMATION

Dear fellow runner,

Thank you for entering the Gosport Half Marathon.

With race day fast approaching, here’s everything you need to know to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience on Sunday 16th November.

RACE HQ and Race Village

King’s Academy Bay House, Browndown Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2QX.

This is a no-smoking site. Dogs are not allowed anywhere within the grounds of the Sports Centre.

Facilities: Changing Rooms/Toilets/Refreshments/Supervised bag storage/ Retail sports stall and Sports Massage (Pre and post-race massage).

There will be a refreshments stall in the main assembly hall for the purchase of hot drinks/snacks and three mobile food/drink vans located in the Race Village.

CAR PARKING

Our main race car park is signposted from the B3333 Privett Road and is situated on private land in Browndown Road (Sat-nav PO13 9BE). (What 3 Words – manuals.dumpling.walkway).

The car park will not be open until 8.00 am. Please note that this car park has a limited capacity; it will fill up quickly. Please car-share when you can. Once full, the car park will be closed and all other cars will be redirected to the seafront car parks in Stokes Bay. There is no cost to use this car park.

Exiting the car park while the race is still underway may be slow at first, if you want a quick getaway after the race, it is suggested that you park in Stokes Bay (see below).

Browndown car park closes at 2 pm, please remove your car before this time.

Car parking in the Sports Centre, Browndown Road or Gomer Lane is not permitted.

Alternative parking is at Stokes Bay, where there are several large council car parks

There is also plenty of spectator parking along the seafront at Lee-on-the-Solent.

ROAD CLOSURES

Will be phased as follows:

Browndown Road   – Closed to through traffic 08.30 – 14.00, but closing later at Privett Road end to allow for car parking in Browndown car park.

Salterns Road – Closed from   10. 00 – 12.45

Privett Road – From Grange Road roundabout to Browndown Road the road will be closed to westbound traffic (Eastbound remains open) 09.50 – 12.30   

Leaving the Event There will be a “Left-Turn Only” out of Browndown Road to improve traffic flow.  Exiting the car park while the race is still underway may be slow at first, if you need a quick getaway after the race it is recommended to use the Council Car Parks along Stokes Bay.

RACE NO. COLLECTION  

WE RECOMMEND AND ASK THAT, IF POSSIBLE, YOU COLLECT YOUR NUMBERS ON SATURDAY AS THIS WILL EASE CONGESTION ON SUNDAY

Numbers must be collected on either Saturday 15th November or on Sunday 16th November (Race Day). The collection venue will be Race HQ.

Saturday Number Collection will be open from 10am – 3pm.

There are no car park facilities at the Sports Centre however you may use the King’s Academy Bay House School car park (300 yards distance from the Sports Centre) in Gomer Road (What 3 Words: rice.voted.mash). There is also ample car parking in Stokes Bay car parks which is a short walk to Race HQ.

Sunday Number Collection will be open from 7.30 am to 9.45 am

To avoid unnecessary stress on yourselves and the race staff on the day of the race, it is recommended that you try and collect your race number on the Saturday.

RACE DAY

The race will start promptly at 10am, please ensure you arrive early to give yourself time to complete your administration and be mentally prepared for the race.

Ensure that your number/chip is worn on the front and is not folded, obscured, cut or mutilated. It is recommended not to cover your number with an arm when crossing the timing mats (such as when starting your watch) and not to pin the number to the leg of your shorts.

THE RACE ROUTE/SPECTATOR VIEWING SPOTS

The course is led by a team of cyclists.

Spectator Spots:

  • Start/Finish (Browndown Road) – with music from Gosport Hospital Radio, toilets & refreshments nearby.
  • Hovercraft Museum, Marine Parade West, PO13 9NS.
  • Monks Hill car park, Salterns Road, PO13 9NJ – toilets & ‘The Shack’ refreshments cabin and ‘Big Noise’ Samba Band.
  • No parking at Monks Hill during the race.

Headphones/Earphones

Under UKA rule 240 S5 the wearing of headphones, or similar devices, (other than those medically prescribed), is not permitted in races on any single-carriageway road that is not wholly closed to traffic. Some sections on the Gosport Half course do have traffic coming in the opposite direction to runners and are therefore not wholly closed.

  • The wearing of such equipment may prevent you from hearing instructions from marshals and other event staff as well as the hearing of sirens/horns from emergency services and other vehicles. By wearing such devices, you are putting yourself and those around you at risk.
  • Rule 240 S5 also states if the athlete wears bone-conductive headphones, these are acceptable as these work by conducting sound through bones and do not sit or block the
  • For the Gosport Half Marathon Bone conducting headphones are permitted so long as the wearer can hear traffic and marshal directions.Please do not risk our ability to get a future license for this event by ignoring this rule.
  • Runners seen to be wearing headphones other than bone-conducting headphones will be disqualified by the Event Organisers
  • Any appeal to a disqualification will be verified by our timing system using the video recording taken at the finish line.  

Number Swaps

Last date for number transfers will be Friday 14/11/2025 18:00

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR NUMBER TO ANOTHER RUNNER. UNAUTHORISED NUMBER SWAPS MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.

YOU ARE ALSO REMINDED THAT IN ACCORDANCE WITH OUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS THERE ARE NO RACE DEFERRALS, NO REFUNDS, NO EXCEPTIONS

START AND FINISH

The Start/Finish is on Browndown Road, approx. 140m from Race HQ.

The race is led off by the Mayor.

CHILDREN’S FUN RUN AND YOUNG PERSON’S CHALLENGE RACE

  • Mass Warm Up – 8.45am
  • Under 12’s (1k) Fun Run – 9am
  • Under 17 (2k) Challenge Race – 9.15am

These events will remain open to entry up to and including race day @ £3.00 per entry.

AWARDS AND PRIZES

MEDALS AND PRESENTATION OF AWARDS

Every finisher will receive a medal and a ‘Goodie Bag’.

The presentation of individual awards will be made as near as possible to 12.30 pm at the Sports Centre.

If you need to leave early, please arrange for someone to collect your prize.

Team prizes will be sent out later once the results have been verified.

The Gosport Half Marathon is a member of the Hampshire Road Race League and runners from those clubs in this league should be aware of sub para 3 of the Competition Rules which state:

‘Athletes must wear their club colours during the HRRL races. Runners found to be in non-compliance risk the exclusion of their results from the HRRL team & individual results for that race.’

RACE RESULTS

RETIREMENTS

If you become injured or unwell during the race, please wait safely at the roadside for assistance. If your able and safe, finding the nearest marshal is the best way to get help quickly. First aid cover will be provided by Emergency Medical Team and is available on the course.

We hope nobody has to cut their race short, but if you do have to retire, please do not pass over the finish mats. Please use the footpath on the left-hand side of the Finish, keeping well away from the mats, to avoid a false finish time being recorded. You MUST inform Race HQ that you have retired from the race and hand your timing chip back in. If you are not accounted for at the end of the race, we will ring you and your emergency contact.

ANTI DOPING

An entrant shall be deemed to have made him/herself/their self, familiar with, and agreed to be bound by the UKA Anti-Doping Rules and to submit to the authority of UK Anti-Doping in the application and enforcement of the Anti-Doping Rules.

The UKA Anti-Doping Rules apply to entrants participating in the sport of Athletics, for 12 months from the [date of entry], whether or not the licence holder is a citizen of, or resident in, the UK.

We are pleased to have Jeremy Landey photography with us on race day. You can pre-register before the event and then check on their website afterwards. Please do look out for the photographers at the start and on the course.

SOME REMINDERS

  • Shortly before the start of the race there will be a mass warm up led by ‘Bootcamp UK’
  • No entries on the day (Except for the children’s races).
  • No dogs, bikes or wheeled vehicles.
  • Please respect our neighbours, do not use the garden and woodland areas near the race HQ as toilets, there is plenty at Race HQ.
  • You will be running to the beat of Gosport’s Big Noise Samba Band.
